Cinque Terre: A trip through the sea, rocks, and colors

The Cinque Terre are one of Italy's most precious treasures; suspended between the blue Ligurian Sea and the verdant Apennines, they are not just a destination, but a unique sensory experience.
This National Park (and UNESCO World Heritage Site) encompasses five historic villages, each with a distinct character:
Monterosso al Mare - The largest, the only one with wide sandy beaches and a seafront perfect for a relaxing stroll.
Vernazza - Often considered the most beautiful. Its natural harbor is surrounded by pastel-colored houses and dominated by the Doria Castle.
Corniglia - The only one that doesn't touch the water. Perched on a 100-meter-high promontory, it can be reached by climbing the Lardarina (382 steps). The view from up there is priceless.
Manarola - A living nativity scene. Famous for its boats parked along the main street and for being the most iconic spot to watch the sunset.
Riomaggiore - A maze of steps and alleyways descending steeply towards the sea. This is the village that welcomes those arriving from La Spezia.

Useful tips for guests:

  • The most efficient way to explore the Cinque Terre is the "Cinque Terre Express" train, which connects La Spezia and Levanto, stopping in all the villages (Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterosso) with trains every 15-20 minutes.
The La Spezia station is just a few stops from the Seravezza/Querceta/Forte dei Marmi station (a 10-minute walk from the Casetta or a 2-minute drive with ample parking available).
  • We recommend avoiding weekends and holidays, especially during the summer, due to crowds.
